Back to None of Westerners saw Japanese killing civilians in person
American journalist who wrote the first Nanking Massacre article. But it was anti-Japanese propaganda. With its title ”Japanese atrocity ”, yet writing about the 5 feet height pile of bodies , which was made BEFORE Japanese entry of Nanking, Yijiang Gate massacre . It also says “civilians were killed” while he himself only saw Japanese soldiers jabbing possibly civilian who might be one of those Chinese soldiers taking off uniforms escaping.
In fact, he has been fooling around China several years before Nanking battle, and US government requested Japanese to find him when he became missing. Japanese found him and protected him, but Japanese military kept eyes on him as anti-Japanese propagandist. At the time of Nanking battle, Japanese authority criticizes him for spreading a false story of Japanese atrocity.
After WW2, he was interviewed with Tokuji Kasahara, and he never said he saw Japanese killing civilians in person.
